Front porch help

I think we might be over the freezing sub zero weather that has been plaguing us this spring. I finally went and bought some flowers for my pots yesterday. Now we are expecting rain again today. I need some help with my boring front porch. This is it in all of its sadness...

I planted flowers in the pots. They are still very small but hopefully will grow. I got out my old pillows from last year and even they don't seem very fun and bright for summer...

I want to paint my front door, but I don't know what color. I thought about black but it might be to dark for my house????
I want to put something on the house next to the door that will last through the summer. Like a flower wreath, but I think I want to put something patriotic instead. Will that last through June, July and August?
Please help me brighten up my front porch. I really don't know what to do. Any advise would be appreciated.

  2. What about a bright red door? It would match the red stripes in the cushions on your bench. xx

  3. I like the idea of a red door too! You can always paint over it if it doesn't work out. Do you have colored shutters or anything?

  4. I agree...a red door would look great, and I think your flowers will fill those pots in no time. It's better to not overcrowd them so they won't become root bound in the pots before summer is out. Annuals grow fast! I love those pots!

  5. Brooke- your comment today is soo so so me. I have such a love/hate relationship here-- I love doing stuff- I love blogging; combine the two, and then all the sudden I'm doing things I shouldn't be doing (i.e., remaking over a whole room and ignoring my kids for 2 days straight), and I want it done NOW so I can blog about it in due time. What the? I don't know. If I just step back a bit, maybe I can get things in perspective again, ya know?
